Meet the Owner
Gwen is a dreamer and an entrepreneur! Besides being creative, funny, and full of life, she is the visionary behind the growth and evolution of Lil’ Pear Tree. Gwen is the youngest of four. As a young girl, she could often be found in tow with her mother, Joyce, who founded Lil’ Pear Tree in 1973!
Gwen grew up in the shop working alongside her mother. Throughout the years, she learned the ins and outs of the floral industry, small business ownership and floral design. As a young adult, after graduating from Olivet Nazarene University, Gwen moved to Houston where she began a career working in the accounting field. As time passed, Gwen made the decision to come home to Lil’ Pear Tree where her heart was rooted. She set aside accounting to return to creativity and here she chose to stay!
In 2010, Joyce passed away and gifted the store to Gwen. As an owner, Gwen is known for listening to her clients and for shaping the business around their ever changing needs. Today there are many new and exciting changes being made to the shop. In the future there can only be more! Gwen will continue to steer the business in the direction of floral and floral preservation excellence.
“I am proud to serve Midland. Home is where the heart is for sure. I am so grateful and thankful to be part of our great community. Thank you for trusting us with your most important events. It is an honor to serve you Midland!” ~Gwen
Lil’ Pear Tree is located in the beautiful town of Midland, Michigan. You can see our bright yellow and green awning welcoming you from just about any position on main street. We love being a part of the heartbeat of our downtown area. Midland is known as the town of Modern Explorers and is home to The Dow Chemical Company. Our town prides itself on being thoughtful, innovative and boldly creative and so do we!
Lil’ Pear Tree has roots! Established in October 1973, Joyce Yeakle and her husband, Richard, started a legacy just a few doors down from where the shop is located today! Originally, the shop was a blend of fresh arrangements, silk flowers and giftware. 2010 brought changes to Lil’ Pear Tree. Joyce passed away leaving her legacy in the trusted care of her daughter, Gwen Malone.
Main street has seen many changes throughout the years. Many of the shops from the 1970’s have come and gone, yet with each passing year our Lil’ Pear Tree keeps growing and thriving. Lil’ Pear Tree continues to change with the times. In 2013, Gwen brought the shop to the next level by expanding its offerings to include cutting edge floral preservation options such as freeze drying and flower petal jewelry services. We are so humbled to still be servicing clients in our area after all of these years. Thank you Midland!
Lil Pear Tree has big plans to spread its branches and continue to grow in the future! We currently can wire flowers to just about anywhere in the world, get fresh flowers from across the globe weekly, and we can preserve flowers for anyone from anywhere in the continental United States!
